As tributes continue to pour in for Kohli, an Indian mimicry artist bid farewell to the great Indian batter in his funny style.

Shaarang Shringarpure, a popular Indian mimicry artist, gave Indian batting legend Virat Kohli a befitting tribute in his own amazing and inimitable style. In a clip that left Instagram users stunned and went viral, Shringarpure can be seen mimicking various ex foreign cricketers, giving their voice his words to bid farewell to Kohli as he retired from Test cricket on Monday, May 12.
Using some references from actual tributes made by these ex-cricketers and commentators on Kohli’s emotional Test exit, the Indian mimic managed to evoke the imagery of virtual conversation between them in the most perfect depiction of their tone, accent and demeanour during the video.
The first to pay tribute to Kohli in Shringarpure’s voice was Ponting as the former Australia captain noted how Kohli’s innate hunger to perform and aggression make him similar to his greatest rivals, the Aussies. “Well, Virat Kohli is very Australian in the way that he plays the game. He plays hard, but he plays fair. Wonderful bloke off the field and a champion player,” Shringarpure said in Ponting’s mimicry.
Ponting was followed by his former teammate Adam Gilchrist, with the wicketkeeping legend saying: “Kohli is retiring when people are asking him why rather than when, and I think that’s the sign of a great player. Shifting from Gilchrist to Justin Langer effortlessly, Shringarpure went, “Virat Kohli is the absolute best player that I have seen in my life, guys.”
The Indian mimic went further back in the Australian cricket community to the legendary Ian Chappell, depicting his forthright nature and appreciative tone in perfect sync. “Well, the great thing about Kohli, in a way very similar to Brian Lara, was his ability to thread the gaps in the field like an absolute surgeon,” said Chappell, as Shringarpure jumped straight to Lara, the Prince of Trinidad, himself. “Thanks for the compliment, Chappelli. Kohli is retiring too soon. I think Test cricket needs Virat Kohli.”
Shringarpure also mimicked popular English cricket faces like Michael Atherton, David Lloyd and Naseer Hussain before finishing off his impressive video with a voiceover of former New Zealand pacer Dany Morrison in his jovial avatar. The clip has attracted nearly 20,000 likes and an overall view count of 2.5 lakh, with fans lauding the mimicry artist for his great work and encouraging him to persist at it.
